Lekhem Bakery!

Lekhem Bakery!

The sweet smell of fresh bread is wafting in the air… after many setbacks and challenges, our bakery is finally open for business! And it has a name: Lekhem Bakery! Lekhem is the Hebrew word for “bread” and we are praying that the delicious breads and pastries coming from this humble bakery will ultimately point people to Jesus, the Bread of Life.

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35

This bakery started with a dream to find a way to provide bread for our school, employ our graduates, and create a sustainable business that would benefit the entire community. This dream has become a reality because of the generous contributions of so many of you! Thank you for your prayers and your gifts and your belief in our mission to provide food, shelter and education to children and families in need.

Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions:

  1. How was this bakery financed? By the generous donations of so many of you! We simply sent what God provided each month for the construction. The total cost of the building construction and all of the equipment was $68,860.
  2. How long did the construction take? We broke ground on the new building in June 2025, so it took around 14 months.
  3. Where is it located? The bakery is the first floor of a new building on the same property as Victory House. You will remember that Victory House consists of teacher housing on the first floor, a boys dorm on the second floor, and a girls dorm on the third floor. This is about a 5 min walk down a dirt road from our Victory Primary School and the Victory Covenant Church property.
  4. Who is managing the bakery? Babra and Beatrice! These two sisters were in our first group of V127 students and were our first two college graduates. Babra is our resident artist. If you have any V127 artwork or notecards, they were most likely created by Babra. She has used her industrial fine arts degree to create artwork, shoes, tote bags and celebration cakes, and will now be using her gifts and talents at the helm of our bakery. Beatrice is using her environmental science degree in a government job, working to provide water for remote villages. She will be lending her talents to the bakery on weekends. The bakery is in great hands with these two gifted young women!

Thank you again for your love and generosity that has made this vision a reality!

Much love,

Jan

*Don’t forget to pray for your V127 student today! They are on a short break between the second and third terms of school and school reports are trickling in. They would love to hear from you!

**Also please pray for provision for our scholarship fund. Term and semester payments are due in early September for all of our students. Our 28 students in higher education need those scholarships to fill in the gap between their sponsorship and the cost of college and vocational school. It’s amazing to have two of our graduates now operating our bakery!
